Overview

Dayanand Ayurvedic College

Education in Ayurveda has a rich tradition. It was taught in the universities of Takshila and Nalanda in ancient times – the golden era of Ayurveda. However, it suffered a setback during medieval period and more so during British rule in India. Fortunately, Ayurveda has received a new impetus after independence and is on its way to revival. But Mahatma Hans Raj thought of contributing to the development of Ayurveda long before Independence in 1898 by establishing Dayanand Ayurvedic College at Lahore. When the college was growing, all its movable & immovable property had to be left at Lahore due to partition in 1947. Consequently, it was re-established at Amritsar, but on account of insufficient space there, it was shifted to Jalandhar in 1953.

Graduates like Dr. Surender Kumar Sharma (Advisor Ayurveda, Govt. of India) have served Ayurveda at higher administrative levels.

Yoga is one of the greatest contribution of the India to the world. It is a drugless method of holistically treating almost all the diseases which are result of modern life styles. If practiced regularly it is one of the best preventive method to avoid diseases. This India’s vedic wisdom in health and medicine is getting global popularity rather world knows India most for spiritual and yogic healing and demand for yoga teachers is increasing all over the world.
Unfortunately because of governments negligence to the most important branch of Indology and scarcity of Govt. yoga teaching centers, a lot of unqualified Yoga teachers are creating quackery in Yoga practice. Those who do not know what heart, lungs, kidney, thyroid gland & spine etc are prescribing yoga postures to patients related to these body organs and diseases as a result in the patients it is producing more harm than benefits and reputation of Yoga gets damaged.
Dayanand Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Jalandhar governed by DAV College Managing committee, New Delhi has started one year therapeutic yoga course, where thorough knowledge of body and diseases will be given to students with minimum qualification of 10+2. Timing of the course are specially designed i.e. 6.00 am to 8.00 am (Practical) and 4 pm. to 6 pm. (theory) so that a student who is perusing graduation in any of stream can join this course as dual studies. After this course students can have placement all over the world in resorts, health centers, spas, panchkarma centers, corporate hospitals, educational institutes or can have his own therapeutic Yoga center. DAV COLLEGE MANAGING COMMITTEE
After the Nirvana of Swami Dayanand (Oct.30, 1883), some of his disciplined followers led by Lala Lalchand gathered at Lahore on Nov. 8, 1883 and determined to convey his preechings through Anglo-Vedic educational institutes a synthesis of vedic heritage and western knowledge. The entire responsibility was put on the shoulders of Lala Hans Raj. Popularly known as Mahatma Hans Raj. Consequently Dayanand Anglovedic College and Management Society was established in Jan. 1886 under society Registration Act. 1860 and this marked the beginning of DAV (Dayanand Anglo Vedic) Movement.

The movement founded as a small school at Lahore in June, 1886, gradually spread to various corners of North India with the selfless efforts of its followers. It suffered a set back in 1947, but after the partition, it was re-established in India by some of its dedicated personalities.

DAV College Trust & Management Society has been nurtured gradually into caring and experienced hands of eminent educationists, social workers and academicians like Sh. G.L. Dutta, Vice Chancellor, Vikram University, Ujjain, Lala Suraj Bhan Vice Chancellor, Kurukshetra and Punjab University, Sh. Mehr Chand Mahajan-Chief Justice of India, Sh. J.L.
