Admission to the DM course takes place through an entrance exam. Both state government and medical colleges conduct these examinations. A minimum of 50 per cent is required for a student to apply to the course. Only one student is selected in a year for the course. Any candidate looking forward to getting a doctorate in medicine must prepare for examinations like NEET SS, AIIMS SS and INI CET exam.
INI CET exam - INI CET stands for Institute of National Importance Common Entrance Test for admissions in PG degree programmes of various INIs in India. The Conducting body is AIIMS Delhi.

To be eligible to pursue a DM course, it is necessary to have a PG degree in the Medical field. The admission takes place on a merit basis.   • If you are clear that you will pursue DM Cardiology post PG, then it's better to go ahead and start early during PG by taking good notes on Harrison. As once you start preparation for cardiology, there would hardly be time to devote enough time for basic speciality.
  • Resources recommended for cardiology are Braun Wald textbook of cardiology which should be supplemented by MCQ books in cardiology.
  • It is important to note that AIIMS, PGIMER & NEET SS all have different patterns. At the least you must revise 3-4 times for whatever you read.
  • Online mock exams and MCQ question banks provide the best and most suitable way of preparation. It will tremendously boost your score.
